This upcoming webinar discussion on Indian Ocean maritime security (including IUU fishing) and Australia-India-France trilateral collaborative solutions is supported by the Australian-French Association for Research and Innovation (AFRAN).

The webinar will explore multifaceted maritime security challenges facing the Indian Ocean region, with a particular focus on combating IUU fishing, and will examine how collaborative leadership can enhance maritime security and sustainability in the Indian Ocean.

We will be joined by Dr Frédéric Grare, Senior Research Fellow, ANU National Security College, and Captain Sarabjeet S Parmar, Senior Fellow, National Maritime Foundation, to give remarks, and the session will be moderated by the Institutes Research Fellow Sam Bashfield. Our speakers will delve into:

·            How the most pressing maritime security threats (including IUU fishing) in the western Indian Ocean impact regional stability and international trade routes.

·            What strategies Australia, India and France can adopt to strengthen cooperation and integrate efforts to create a cohesive approach to maritime security in the western Indian Ocean.

·            How engagement with regional multilateral institutions, including the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) and Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), address these challenges.
