Call for projects Australian French Studies in the Pacific is now open!
Deadline for applications: 31 August 2024

The Embassy of France to Australia is looking to support research and higher education for the study of French culture, history, society and languages in the Pacific, as part of its Pacific Shared Knowledge Initiative. The purpose of the present call is to contribute to the funding of projects undertaken by Australia-based academics and universities in collaboration with New Caledonia, Wallis-and-Futuna and French Polynesia.
Overview
New Caledonia, Wallis-and-Futuna and French Polynesia are essential parts of French society. Each offers a diverse landscape of arts, languages, cultural forms, and customs, as well as a distinctive history and society. With strong research and higher learning organisations, they provide unique opportunities to students and researchers to further their understanding of France, the Pacific, and the Francophone world.
To support research and learning, and to foster shared and mutual knowledge between France and Australia, the Embassy of France to Australia is offering grants to researchers and higher education teachers to support projects in New Caledonia, Wallis-and-Futuna and French Polynesia.
Projects can be for research, higher learning or both. All fields of humanities and social sciences are eligible to apply. They can take the form of summer schools, language and cultural immersion sessions, workshops, fieldwork, curriculum development, or other activities best suited to the learning or research objectives of the applicant. Projects should involve either travel to New Caledonia, Wallis-and-Futuna and French Polynesia, or invitations from these territories to Australia.
Applicants with projects involving one or more partners from the French territories in the Pacific, whether based on an existing collaboration or looking to initiate one, are strongly encouraged to apply.
A total budget of AUD 24,000 is available through this call.
