We are thrilled to announce the call for applications for the Australian-French Entrepreneurship Hackathon called Hacking the Environment: Climate, Energy, Health, Social Sciences... and you! to be held on the 4th and 5th of November at ANU in Canberra.

Apply and explore, reflect and create over two days to build new initiatives or technologies to answer to global challenges!

The winning team will receive a prize at the Award ceremony at the Embassy of France to Australia

Context:

Research and innovation play a crucial role in addressing the critical challenges of the 21st century. This Hackathon will lead groups of 4-5 PhD students/young professionals from research ideas to the creation of their innovative company. They will experience the potential for translation of an innovative idea and discover that the business culture functions as an incubator for research creativity. Finally, they will learn to establish a dialogue between the complexity of research and the empirical experience of the market. The hackathon will last two days, divided into learning phases, creation phases and breaks. At the end, each group will pitch their company project in front of a panel of experts.

Objectives:

The Hackathon aims to:

  • Empower participants to become SDG change agents while using their scientific (including social sciences and humanities) skills.

  • Foster creativity and topic knowledge, encourage creative problem-solving and critical thinking.

  • Build connections: interact with other participants from Australia and the Pacific, and with coaches from industry and academia.

  • Develop Personal and Professional Competencies: learn key competencies for the design of a solution and the building of a business.

Eligibility:

PhD students and junior professionals from Australia and the French Pacific territories are eligible to apply. Students from diverse disciplines, backgrounds, and nationalities are encouraged to apply. Participants should be willing to work in teams, have a passion for problem-solving, and be available for the entire duration of the hackathon. Participants should be able to interact in English.
